A QR code stores text in a pattern a phone camera can read. Point a camera at it and the phone offers to open the link, join the network or show the text. This tool makes static QR codes: the content is stored in the image itself.
Will my QR code stop working?
No. Because the link is inside the code rather than behind a redirect, it works as long as the link itself works. There is no subscription to lapse and no service in between that could shut down. Many online generators make dynamic codes that point to their own short link, which can stop working or start showing ads when a free plan ends. The trade-off is that you cannot change where a static code points after printing it, so test the link before you print.
PNG or SVG?
PNG is a normal image for websites, documents and social posts. Choose the size in pixels, from 64 to 4096; the default is 512, and 1024 or more is sensible for print. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, which is what printers and designers prefer for flyers, posters and packaging.
What is error correction?
QR codes include spare data so they still scan when part of the code is dirty, damaged or covered. Four levels are available: L recovers about 7 percent, M about 15 percent (the default), Q about 25 percent and H about 30 percent. Higher levels make the pattern denser. Use H if you plan to put a small logo over the middle; use L or M for long links, so the code stays easy to scan.
Can I change the colours?
Yes. Set the code colour and the background colour. Keep strong contrast, with a dark code on a light background; light codes on dark backgrounds and pale colours scan poorly on many phones.
How much text fits?
A few thousand characters at most, and less at higher error correction. In practice, shorter is better: a short link scans faster and from further away than a long one.
Is it private?
The code is generated on our server from the text you type and deleted within two hours. Nothing is tracked when people scan it.
Can I make many codes at once?
Yes. Upload .txt files instead of typing, and each file becomes one code, for example one per table or one per product. Up to 5 are free at once, and Pro handles batches of up to 500.

Does the QR code expire?
No. It is static, so it works as long as the content it points to exists.
Can I see how many people scanned it?
No. Static codes are not tracked. Add a tracking parameter to your link and read it in your own analytics.
What size should I print it?
At least 2 by 2 cm, and larger if people scan it from a distance.
