Page numbers matter as soon as someone has to refer to a page: a contract under review, a thesis appendix, a printed handout that might get dropped on the floor. This tool writes a number onto each page of your PDF.
Where do the numbers go?
Pick one of six positions: top or bottom, left, centre or right. Choose how the number reads: just 3, Page 3, Page 3 of 12 or 3 / 12. Set the first number, which helps when the PDF is one chapter of a larger document, and tick skip first page to leave a cover page unnumbered. The text size defaults to 10 point.
The numbers are drawn as real text in a standard font, so they print sharply at any size and stay searchable.
Does it change my pages?
The existing page content is not re-rendered. The number is added as an extra layer on top of each page, so text, images and layout stay exactly as they were. If a page already has something printed where the number goes, the two will overlap, so pick a free corner.
Is it private?
On this page your browser adds the numbers. The PDF is not uploaded, so the file never leaves your device.
What are the limits?
The free plan handles PDFs up to 50 MB with no daily cap; Pro handles up to 500 MB. If you number every file in a set, such as all the exhibits for a filing, the pipeline builder does them in one run and can name the outputs by pattern. You can try a pipeline on up to 3 files for free.

FAQ
Can I skip numbering the cover page?
Yes. Tick skip first page. The count then starts on page 2 with the first number you set.
Can I number several PDFs as one continuous sequence?
Merge them first with Merge PDF, then add numbers to the combined file.
Will the numbers show on scanned pages?
Yes. They are drawn on top of the page image.
Can I remove the numbers later?
Not with this tool. Keep your original file if you might need an unnumbered copy.
