Splitting turns one PDF into several. Either every page becomes its own file, or you list ranges and each range becomes one file. The results come back together in a ZIP.
How do page ranges work?
Leave the ranges field empty to get one PDF per page. To split into chunks, type the ranges separated by commas. 1-3,4-6,7-10 gives you three PDFs: pages 1 to 3, pages 4 to 6 and pages 7 to 10. A single number is a one-page file, so 1,2-5 gives you the cover on its own and pages 2 to 5 together.
Page numbers are the physical position in the file, starting at 1, which is not always the number printed in the page footer. Each output file is named after the original with its page range, so you can tell them apart after unzipping.
If you only want to pull a few pages out and throw the rest away, one range does it: 4-6 gives you a single PDF with those three pages.
Does splitting change the pages?
No. Each page is copied as it is, with its text, fonts and images untouched. The output looks identical to the original, and text you could select before stays selectable.
Bookmarks and form fields that span the whole document may not carry into the parts. A digital signature on the original does not validate on the split files.
Does the file leave my computer?
On this page the split runs in your browser. Your PDF is not uploaded, so the file never leaves your device. You can use it on a bank statement or a medical record without it touching a server.
What are the limits?
Free covers PDFs up to 50 MB, with no cap on pages or on how often you split. Pro accepts files up to 500 MB. For a stack of scanned bundles that all need the same split, the pipeline builder runs it over the whole set; you can try a pipeline on up to 3 files for free, and bigger runs need Pro or credits.

Can I split a PDF into equal chunks, like every 10 pages?
Yes. Type the chunks as ranges: 1-10,11-20,21-30 and so on.
Can I get just one range as a PDF?
Yes. Enter that single range, for example 5-8, and you get one PDF with those pages.
What happens to the original file?
Nothing. It stays on your device as it was. The split pages are new files.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Remove the password first with Unlock PDF. An encrypted file cannot be read without it.
Why are the split files almost as big as the original?
Pages often share fonts and images. Each part needs its own copy of those, so the parts can add up to more than the whole.
